WISP Training Camp – 2013 Pre Worlds Test Event and USA Team Trials

Chilling at the Dickerson course between sessions with Thea.Recap – Dickerson Elite Race

This past weekend many American and Canadian paddlers came down to the Dickerson whitewater course to compete in the Dickerson Elite & Intermediate race. It was one of the first races of the season; it was nice to be back. Unfortunately I was the one and only C1 woman who decided to race! I was first, last and everything in between. I had a few mistakes in each run I should have avoided but either way it was a great race and a fun course.

Race format was first run semi final & second run final:

  • Results for Dickerson Elite Race Day 2, here.

Directly after the race we headed back home for a quick recovery week in Ottawa before returning on the road again.

WISP Training Camp – 2013 Pre Worlds Test Event and USA Team Trials – May 17-19, 2013

Sunday May 12th we once again packed our bags and drove to Deep Creek MD to train on the Wisp Whitewater course and compete in the USA National Team Trials. Here, we hope to have quality training and racing before we head back up to Minden ON for our Canadian National Team Trials (May 25th – May 26th). Many Canadian paddlers came down from Ottawa, Alberta and British Columbia. There are not only plenty of great American paddlers but also some impressive international paddlers including Michal Martikan (C1) and the Hochschorner brothers (C2) from Slovakia.

This river has many interesting features and I’ve loved every minute of paddling on this course so far.

ASCI’s man-made river channel (located at the top of Wisp Resort in Deep Creek Lake, MD) is the world’s only mountaintop whitewater course, and can be enjoyed by beginners, families and paddling enthusiasts. – DeepCreek2014

Deep Creek 2014 - ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships

Considering that the slalom course here in Deep Creek has been selected for the 2014 World Championships (September 16-21), it is great to get a few extra hours of training and competing on this course.

Tomorrow will be our last training session on the water and the race course will be set by 4PM for demonstration runs.

The competition will then begin Friday morning May 17th at 10AM in the order: C1M-C1W-K1M-K1W-C2M. Official start list for Friday is, here.

Can’t wait to race! I hope you enjoy the competition!

Wish me luck!

Nice Alexandra! I missed a promo for Westjet…it expired yesterday! I signed up for their deals e-mail, and will wait a little to see if another promo comes out soon. I’ll give it a couple of weeks, and if it doesn’t, I’ll book.

    Good luck!
